Decades have passed since Rovema launched their new packaging concept, the Bag-in-Box, on the market in 1961.
In the packaging line, there were various machines feeding a horizontal cartoning machine with pillow pouches. The plastic bag formed a hermetic seal to keep the product fresh.
The paperboard box added structural support for the pack, not only providing external protection for the product, it was an important marketing instrument too, as it could be printed with captivating images for advertising purposes.
Today, Bag-in-Box cartons made of paperboard, aluminium or plastic, are widely-used packaging solutions. This type of packaging is used in many sectors, such as for cereals, powdered milk and baby foods. We can dispel the myth that a Bag-in-Box can only be used for liquids like wine.
Bag-in-Box packs are an effective solution for protecting all kinds of foods from damp, but what happens once the bag inside the box has been opened? Does the product stay fresh, maintaining the same organoleptic qualities?
Pac Spout: our ecological and economically viable alternative to the Bag-in-Box
The evolution of dosing systems often derives from the need to provide consumers with packaging that guarantees the contents will stay fresh and be protected from external agents such as damp and insects, things obviously detrimental to the flavour and consistency of the product. In fact, often once the bag is opened, such as a bag of cereals for example, you can’t close it again hermetically so the cereal won’t stay crunchy for long.
Pac Spout was designed specifically for this reason: to be a valid alternative to the Bag-in-Box, to guarantee all food products such as powdered foods, cereals, baby food and powdered milk will keep longer in a pack which, thanks to our dosing solutions, seals hermetically and protects the product inside for longer, also at home once the box has been opened.
And that’s not all. Not only does the spout guarantee the product will stay fresher, and make it easier to pour, giving the final customer a better user experience, it optimises time and the notable resources usually required for a Bag-in-Box system in the packaging stage of the production process, meaning further economic advantages.
